বর্ষপঞ্জি বা বাংলা ক্যালেন্ডার প্রত্যেক বঙ্গবাসী ও বাঙালীর জীবনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। সূর্যের ঘুর্ণন পদ্ধতির ওপর ভিত্তি করে হিসেব করা হয় বলে এই পঞ্জিকাকে সৌর পঞ্জিকাও বলা হয়। তাই একটি সৌর বছরে থাকে ৩৬৫ দিন, এবং এক বছরকে ১২ মাসে বিভক্ত করা হয়।
এই পঞ্জিকার মাধ্যমে আপনি যেমন আজকের বাংলা তারিখ, কোন তিথি জানতে পারবেন, তেমন জেনে নিতে পারবেন বঙ্গদেশের নানান অনুষ্ঠান ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সকল তিথি।
সেই কারণেই বাংলা ক্যালেন্ডারের মধ্যে রয়েছে বাঙালীর ঐতিহ্য। পৃথিবীর বেশির ভাগ স্থানের মতোই বাংলার ঘরে ঘরে মূলত দেখতে পাওয়া যায় গ্রেগরিয়ান ক্যালেন্ডার।
কিন্তু আজও বাংলা পঞ্জিকা হারিয়ে যায়নি বাঙালীর বিস্মৃতির আড়ালে। দুর্গা পুজোর তারিখ থেকে বিবাহের উপযুক্ত দিন – সব কিছু জানার জন্যই ইংরেজি ২০২3 সালেও বাঙালী বাংলা ক্যালেন্ডারের দ্বারস্থ হয়ে থাকে।
বাংলা পঞ্জিকা বনাম ইংরেজি (গ্রেগরিয়ান) ক্যালেন্ডার
১৫৮২ সালে পোপ গ্রেগরী (১৩) প্রথম বিশ্বের সম্মুখে গ্রেগরিয়ান ক্যালেন্ডার প্রতিস্থাপিত করেন। এই ইংরেজি ক্যালেন্ডার শুরু হয় ১ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ভিত্তিতে।
অপরদিকে জানা যায় যে বাংলা পঞ্জিকা সৃষ্টি করেন গৌড় রাজ্যের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা, রাজা শশাঙ্ক। সেই পঞ্জিকার শুরু ৫৯৩/৫৯৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দে। পরবর্তীকালে মুঘল সম্রাট আকবর সেই পঞ্জিকাতে কিছু পরিবর্তন নিয়ে আসেন।
তাই বাংলা ও ইংরেজি ক্যালেন্ডারে বছরের পার্থক্য ৫৯৩/৫৯৪ সালের। সেই হিসেব অনুসারে ইংরেজি ক্যালেন্ডারে যখন ২০২3-24 সাল, তখন বাংলা সাল ১৮২৮-৩০। বাংলা সন শুরু হয় বৈশাখ মাস থেকে – এবং নববর্ষের সূচনা হয় ইংরেজি এপ্রিল মাসের মধ্যবর্তী সময়ে।
বাংলা বছর
বাংলা বছরে থাকে ৩৬৫ দিন – এবং ১২টি মাস। বাংলা মাসগুলির নাম হলো –
১) বৈশাখ
২) জৈষ্ঠ্য
৩) আষাঢ়
৪) শ্রাবণ
৫) ভাদ্র
৬) আশ্বিন
৭) কার্তিক
৮) অগ্রহায়ণ
৯) পৌষ
১০) মাঘ
১১) ফাল্গুন
১২) চৈত্র
বাংলা বছরের মধ্যে রয়েছে একটি বিশেষত্ব। প্রতিটি বছর ৬টি ঋতুতে বিভক্ত – অর্থাৎ প্রতি দুই মাসে হয় একটি ঋতু। বছরের সূচনা থেকে ৬টি ঋতু হলো –
১) গ্রীষ্ম
২) বর্ষা
৩) শরৎ
৪) হেমন্ত
৫) শীত
৬) বসন্ত
প্রতিটি ঋতু সঙ্গে নিয়ে আসে প্রকৃতির এক বিচিত্র রূপ – ও সেই সঙ্গে উৎসব ও আনন্দের উপলক্ষ্য। তাই তো বলা হয়, বাঙালীর বারো মাসে তেরো পার্বণ – এবং এই সব পরব পালনের ক্ষেত্রে বাংলা পঞ্জিকার তারিখ ও গণনা সর্বাধিক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।

Bengali Calendar
The Bengali calendar is extremely important for the people of Bengal. This calendar corresponds to the position of the sun during a single revolution of the earth. Hence, it is a solar calendar with 365 days, divided into 12 months.
The Bangla calendar indicates the date of the Bengali year. But there is another essential use of this calendar. Even today Bengali date and time are essential for the people of Bengal to determine the auspicious day and time of a year for an event.
Thus, the Bengali calendar is imbibed in the culture of this region. Just like the people in most regions in the world, people in Bengal, too, primarily follow the Gregorian or English calendar.
But the Bengali calendar has not been forgotten by the people of this region. From Durga Puja to the auspicious dates for a wedding – everything is determined after consulting the Bangla calendar.
Bengali Calendar vs. English (Gregorian Calendar
In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII first introduced the Gregorian calendar to the world. This English calendar begins on 1 AD.
On the other hand, it is known that the Bengali calendar was created by King Sasanka of Gauda. It starts in 593/594 AD. Later, during the Mughal era, Emperor Akbar made certain changes to the calendar.
That is why there is a gap of 593/594 years between the English and the Bengali calendars. Accordingly, if you look at the Bengali calendar 2023 today Bangla date will reflect the Bengali year 1829/30.
Bengali Year Months and Seasons
The Bengali year starts from the month of Boisakh, and the Bangla New Year is referred to as Nabobarsho. There are 12 months in the Bangla year, i.e.,
